I've been a standup comedian in Los Angeles
for the past five years and have performed in and/or hosted over 1,500 shows in
that time. I've written for the National Lampoon, ESPN and NBC. I just finished
hosting two weekly web series for NBC's Dotcomedy.com. I also write and maintain
a blog called Dan Bialek Loves Kittens.
While pursuing a career as a
comedian I have also held, quit and been fired from dozens of random low-paying
and oftentimes soul-draining jobs. A few of them include: elementary summer
school teacher, substitute high school teacher in South Central Los Angeles,
reporter and city editor for a small weekly newspaper in Hermosa Beach, security
guard at the Warner Brothers movie lot, stock room clerk at Abercrombie &
Fitch (blaring techno music for $8 an hour), book store cashier, E3 trade show
emcee and product demonstrator, focus group participant (I got kicked out for
talking too much), limosuine driver (I got fired after the first night), doorman
and cover booth cashier at the World Famous Comedy Store in Hollywood, plus
many, many more.
Why Should I Care About His Crummy Tour?
Because I'm funny and I really care about my fans and standup comedy. I'm
sick of sitting around with a million other so-called comedians and complaining
about the lack of stage time and the bitter and vapid audiences here in Los
Angeles. Instead I've decided to drive across America and meet and perform for
people who actually want to see me do live standup comedy.
I'm putting this whole tour together all by myself. I built this website on
my own with a bootlegged copy of Dreamweaver MX. I'm booking all of the venues
on my own with no booking agent or manager to help me out. I'm driving to all of
these venues myself in my dented, silver Honda Civic. I'll also be filming and
editing all of the footage from the places I visit and putting it up here and on
Myspace/YouTube for my fans to watch as the tour progresses.
I don't know of any other comedian (except maybe Doug Stanhope, who is so
awesome I wouldn't even think of comparing myself to him in a million years) who
is doing or has done something like this. I've decided to stop whining and to go
out and do the kind of shows that I want to do for people who actually
appreciate my sense of humor.
